About Bertrand Courtenay

Bertrand Courtenay is an experienced lab technician and scientific writer specializing in chromatography, mass spectrometry, and other analytical instrumentation.

He received his BS in Biochemistry from UNSW Sydney, where he gained proficiency in using GC-MS, LC-MS, CE, and NMR spectroscopy during coursework and research projects. He got his Masters in Biochemistry from the University of California San Diego where he also attained his ASCP and CSMLS certifications while doing his masters in the US. He got his Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques to work as a full-time medical lab technician in Australia.

For the past 5 years, Bertrand has worked as a senior technician at RUBICON SCIENCE PTY LIMITED, managing day-to-day operations of the LC-MS/MS and ICP-MS facilities. He enjoys keeping up with the latest advances in analytical science and emergent techniques like imaging mass spectrometry.

Bertrand has authored several articles and application notes on MS sample preparation, method development/validation, and metabolomics analyses. He also frequently presents webinars focused on applied mass spec operation and maintenance aspects.
