Micro RFC Radial Columns

 

Focusing on the most fundamental characteristic between axial and radial is expressing a radial column as an axial column with a tapered bore. The ratio between the inlet and outlet is equal to the mean ratio found in all Proxcys Radial columns and is 2:1. Therefore a radial mimic Micro-RFC column is a tube-like "axial style" column with a tapered bore.

 

To ensure close resemblance of hydrodynamics and over-all column behavior, the frits are identical to the larger pilot & process columns. Even the packing process is similar to the larger columns and therewith the packing density will be close.

CRIO-MD Method Development columns for HP-RFC Pilot & Process columns

 

Creating a scale-down model of a Pilot or Process HP-RFC column requires the most fundamental characteristics to be preserved. Expressing the radial column as a "slice column" with the same bed height, frit buildup and the same ratio between inlet & outlet opening, This will ensure similarity of chromatographic performance.

Also the Annular packing port position and handling are identical to their larger counterpart hence even the packing density will be very close to the full scale column it represents.

The radial mimic MD column can therefore be considered a true "piece of (the) cake".
